This small 100 hectare bird sanctuary lies roughly 1 km south of a shallow valley that carves its way through the centre of Benoni in Johannesburg. It is home to at least 250 bird, including the goliath heron and glossy ibis, black egret and African spoonbill.

Check out this 2.6-km loop trail near Benoni, Gauteng. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 33 min to complete. This is a popular trail for birding, running, and walking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day.

The trail is mostly paved and could work for wheelchairs at least part of the way. Informative signage throughout about the wetland and the resident birds. Benches also provided around the trail.
