The course is 5000m (5k) long. This has been accurately measured by us with a professional measuring wheel. The course is at Golden Harvest Park, Northgate. The course is run on a mixture of paved drive, sand roads, grass and sand. Some sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain. Dependent on availability, marshals will be at key sections of the course, or signs will be in place.
Course Description
This is a single lap course. It is well marked.
Start on the cobbled road just below the parking lot and above the dam. Head out straight and turn left up the grassy field. Carry on over the crest of the hill, down a rough section with roots and rocks. At the road turn right and follow the dirt path with exposed roots, towards the windmill. Go through the low wooden railing. Keep to the right and go down another grassy field, which is the picnic area, where you will pass the 1km mark. Continue to the bottom of the open area, just above a stream where there is a tree near a braai stand. Go around the tree and turn left, still on the grass, and carry on straight alongside the stream, where you will cross the road. Just after this crossing there is a house on the left. Carry on straight across a field, around the rock which is marked with an arrow and up the hill. Pass through another wooden railing and keep right along the cobbled road with another house on your right. At end of this road which veers to the left, take a short left and turn almost immediately right again just after the stream, through another wooden rail. Continue up the hill with the playground on your left. Towards the top of this hill, you will turn left over the small wooden bridge, turn immediately right and continue to the top of the hill where it is clearly marked where you turn left. Carry on straight across the cobbled road and up the rocky path you came down on. As you get to the grassy area turn right at the rehab centre and continue straight, once again crossing a cobbled road. A little further on there is another cobbled road, where you turn right on to a sandy/grassy path and continue round this wooded area, where you will reach the halfway mark. Continue with this circular path until you get back to the cobbled road. Turn right down this road, halfway down the hill you will pass the 3km signpost painted on a rock on the side of the road. Continue down into the dip and as the road begins to climb turn right up another steep rocky path. You will pass another house with a manicured garden on your left and a house on the right. This path meanders through a woody area, leading onto a dirt road – turn left and follow the dirt road up to the boundary wall where the road diverges into the path which turns right and follows along the boundary wall with a row of town houses on the other side of the boundary wall. Follow this path, passing the 4km mark and turn left onto the dirt road at the generator and cell phone tower. Go down the road through a forested area, until you reach a clearing with the dam on your right-hand side. Follow the road straight ahead and up through the dip and you will be back on the cobbled road you came down on. Carry on past the disused road which is now blocked with a tyre on your right, and past the trees marking the end of a field. Several metres past here you will see a sign marking the turn to the right, which leads you onto a grassy area and it is a gentle downward incline towards the finish line, which is sheltered under the trees, in the middle of the field. Which is approximately where you started from.
Dogs are welcome, but global parkrun rule states only one dog per runner/walker, on a short leash by your side. Waist harnesses are not permitted. Poo bags are available from the volunteers should you forget to bring one. Please pick up your dog’s mess and drop it in the poo bins provided along the route, or in the yellow park bin at the finish.
