Discover this 10.0-km loop trail near Pretoria, Gauteng. Generally considered a moderately challenging route. This is a very popular area for birding and mountain biking, so you’ll likely encounter other people while exploring.

Fort Klapperkop is one of four forts built around Pretoria. It was completed in January 1898. The fort was surrounded by a moat and had a drawbridge but the moat never contained water as the shale from which it was cut was too porous. From the lookout point, you can see the beautiful city of Tshwane. Although small mammals such as mongooses, hedgehogs, hares and porcupines are difficult to spot, there is evidence that they are present. The bird life is rich, and zebra, blue wildebeest and other game species have been reintroduced to the area. The unique vegetation of Klapperkop is a transition between two veld types, grassveld and mixed bushveld.
