Facing the spectacular sandstone hill with the outcrop shaped as a camel’s head (giving it it’s name) is this tranquil farm with glorious views of the Maluti Mountains. Camelroc is situated between the two Caledon rivers and is close to Caledonspoort border post.

Hiking Trails:

Both the trails set out from the lovely camping area.

The longer trail is about 9km but one should not be fooled by the apparent short distance. The hike is full of challenges and interest and takes rather longer than may be expected. The trail winds its way up the mountain in between poplar and indigenous clumps of bush and walks underneath the sandstone overhangs for quite a distance. There are strenuous climbs up the mountain with names like “Heartbreak Hill” and “Moedbreek Hoogte” – apt descriptions! Access to the most magnificent cave “Gods Window”, is reached on two routes catering for the bold via “The Ledge” or on an alternative gentler route called the “Chicken Run”. One crosses over a dramatic, almost suspended bridge to The Camel Head, the pinnacle of the trail.

Mountain Biking Trail:

This is a genuine MOUNTAIN bike trail. Set out in the Rooiberge of the Eastern Free State, near Fouriesburg. Beautiful and varied single trail purpose built for authentic mountain biking. Excellent views along most of the trail. This is for the adventurer who wants more than just riding on gravel roads and Jeep tracks. You will not want to ride this exciting trail just once!!!
