Give this 3.7-kilometer loop trail near Centurion, Gauteng, a go. It’s typically classified as an easy route, with an average completion time of around 50 minutes. This trail is highly frequented by birding enthusiasts and hikers.
The Bishop Bird Nature Area is named after the southern red bishop. The nature area is situated less than 1 km north of the Rooihuiskraal Historical Terrain and forms part of its rich cultural history. This nature area is 19 ha in size and the site serves as a place where people can escape from the everyday hustle and bustle of the city, and relax in the tranquility and peacefulness of natural surroundings. The vegetation in the nature area is classified as Bankenveld and consists of open grass areas with groups of indigenous trees. Bishop Bird Nature Area is a birdwatcher’s paradise and numerous species of birds have been recorded in the area. Other animals such as blesbuck, mongooses, hedgehogs, bushbabies and reptiles can be found in the area and some of them can be seen while hiking.
